Climate LIFE
Visualizing everyday life in a low carbon future
Climate LIFE is a virtual tour of how communities across the globe can both fight climate change and adapt to a warming world. The purpose of Climate LIFE is to encourage awareness of and appreciation for the human and commercial potential in a low carbon future. It will act as a catalyst for a new public discourse on climate change.
Until now, the political debate and public discourse on climate change has pictured a world of risks. In response to this, Climate LIFE will present a vision for a more sustainable future—a future that can also be a place we want to be.
Drawing on the transformative power of visualization, Climate LIFE will show what sustainable communities might look like in the future, and in the process demonstrate that these communities are not only economically viable but also highly desirable, capable of setting new standards for quality of life.
Climate LIFE consists of three key elements:
A FILM that shows us what low carbon living might look like in practice. Based on the latest advances brought about by low carbon pioneers, the film will document cutting-edge technologies, solutions and concepts, and how they apply to everyday life. A response to Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, it aims to inspire us to change our ways. The film will premiere in Copenhagen on 24 May 2009 at the opening ceremony of the World Business Summit on Climate Change. It will subsequently will be shown at events, on the web, and will also be distributed to TV broadcasters across the world.
A DIGITAL EXHIBITION that demonstrates what makes Climate LIFE possible and explores the delivery model necessary to achieve this vision. Looking at the political, economic and cultural systems as well as the technological and biological process that will underpin low carbon living in the future, the exhibition will present a variety of practical solutions and their implications, highlighting the state of the art in movement, energy production and efficient consumption, water and waste management etc. The exhibition will use the latest social software advances and interactive tools to illustrate the challenges, how they affect people, and the possibilities for getting involved.
A BOOK that illustrates Climate LIFE and what makes the transition to this new way of living possible and desirable. A reference book, it is the perfect companion piece to the digital exhibition.
Together, these three elements will make for an inspiring tour of a new way of life.
